Scholarship Overview - Criteria & Benefits
We award scholarships through Women in Aviation International (WAI) to young women pursuing ambitious aviation careers as a way to carry on the legacies of Navy LT Valerie Cappelaere Delaney and Army CPT Sara Knutson Cullen. From a highly competitive pool of applicants, we select scholars who embody many of the same characteristics as Val, Sara and other strong, fearless females in the military aviation community. Importantly, we look for candidates with a passion for flying AND for serving others in their own communities. The funds go directly to the winner’s flight school, and we also provide travel assistance to attend the WAI conference in March, accept the award in person, and take advantage of all the conference benefits. More than just the funding, our scholars gain a supportive network among fellow recipients, our family foundation, and other female aviators to encourage them along their journeys. They add to the collective strength of all female aviators and help inspire future generations of women in aviation and young leaders in any field.
